Sally JoAnne Menke, the Oscar nominated film editor most widely known for her work on films by director Quentin Tarantino, was found dead in the Hollywood Hills early Tuesday morning.
According to reports, Menke, 56, was discovered Tuesday morning in Beachwood Canyon in Los Angeles, an apparent victim of hyperthermia.
Monday brought record temperatures of 113 degrees to Los Angeles, these conditions prevailed when Menke went hiking with her friend and dog. A short time into the hike, Menke complained of discomfort and decided to return to her car. Her friend continued on and later alerted officials after Menke failed to be located after the hike.
A late night search by local agencies involving search dogs, LAPD officers, and a police helicopter located Menke’s body at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, her dog by her side. Menke’s vehicle was also located in a Griffith Park parking lot.
An autopsy is planned for Wednesday to determine the official cause of death.
Menke was born on December 17th, 1953 in Mineola, New York and graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts film program. Menke’s film credits include:
