Apple’s iPad Set to Receive Challenge From Motorola’s Xoom

Debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Motorola’s Xoom tablet is being viewed as the latest possible contender. Set to launch February 17, the Xoom tablet will price $700-$800 for a 32GB model. The price point is comparable to Apple’s iPad 3G at $729.

With a 1280×800, 10.1-inch screen, the Xoom, as indicated my Motorola, will have 3G connectivity as well as boasting Google’s version of Android operating system. Plans of distribution include Verizon Wireless. Motorola’s tablet will support 1080p HD, Adobe Flash 10.1, and claims a 10-hour battery life. Front and rear camera with LED flash accompanies the Xoom.

The main concern currently is the number of applications that will be available for the Xoom with apple currently offering more than 60,000 apps developed for the iPad. Either way, the new tablet will join the likes of the Galaxy Tab and Playbook in an attempt to challenge the iPad as the top tablet on the market.
